Embedding AI in Education:
A Strategic Review of Practice at Woodland Academy Trust

This research by Mark Anderson (ICT Evangelist) and Woodland Academy Trust explores how AI tools can transform lesson planning and teaching practice. By integrating AI support systems such as ChatGPT, Magma Maths, Olex, and TeachMate AI, teachers halved their planning time while improving lesson quality, confidence, and efficiency.

Both teachers and pupils reported clear benefits: educators felt less overwhelmed, and students were more engaged and active in their learning. The study highlights that AI enhances — rather than replaces — professional expertise, demonstrating how thoughtful adoption of these tools can lead to meaningful, sustainable improvements in teaching and learning.

Focus Areas

The evaluation centres on three key domains of impact to ensure a thorough
understanding of the initiative’s effectiveness:

Reduced Teacher
Workload

Saving teachers time
and effort.

Improved Pupil
Engagement

Examining student interest
and participation.

Improved Pupil
Outcomes

Determining the effect
on pupil learning results.
